Syria Supper Club Mobile Website
I developed a UX/UI and branding concept for the Syria Supper Club, an organization that connects Syrian and Iraqi refugees with American families for dinner gatherings.
The Syria Supper Club currently uses a SignUpGenius website to facilitate dinner gatherings in New Jersey. I focused on redesigning the club's website to accomplish three goals: scaling operations to any city, sharing refugees' culinary stories, and streamlining the registration and payment process.
The Syria Supper Club has received a lot of attention in the news – I used this information to identify three user groups: guests, hosts and chefs. I conceived personas, scenarios and user flows for each type of user.
I learned that immigrants and people who earn lower income are more likely to rely on mobile phones for internet, so I began to wireframe ideas for mobile screens.
I narrowed down the MVP to an Invision prototype that models the guest user journey. I conducted three usability tests and received feedback on the product from other designers, resulting in the version below.
Features - Safety First
Prospective members can only make an account if invited by a current member, and they must connect to at least one social media account to help verify their identity.
Features - Know Before You Go
Test users wanted to learn more about the host, chef and other guests before deciding to attend. They were particularly interested in seeing reviews and social profiles of the host, since they would be going to their house.
Features - Food Connects Us All
The recipe page allows guests to see a meal's ingredients and allergens. It also encourages chefs to tell their own memories or stories of their recipe, which can serve as a point of connection at the dinner.
Features - Get Social
At checkout, users can share attendance on a connected social account, add the event to their device's calendar or Apple Wallet, or send a personalized SMS invite to a friend.
I learned to conduct user interviews earlier in the process, separate UX and UI testing, and emphasize collaboration with the population being served.
